Music Ministry Page

Make a joyful noise to God all the earth.  Sing the glory of His name; Give to Him glorious praise!
Psalm 66: 1-2

The purpose of the Brooklyn Presbyterian Music Ministry is toGLORIFY GOD with all forms of music, choral and instrumental. We will provide opportunities for all ages, lead the congregation in worshiping God, provide an avenue of fellowship for our members and serve God by using our talents and giving of our time.

Opportunities for participating in the music ministry of Brooklyn Presbyterian Church:

Adult Handbell Choir: The Handbell Choir rehearses on Thursday evenings and usually plays on the 3rd Sunday of the month, most often in the 10:30 service. Complex music and arrangements are mastered by these serious musicians.

            Rehearsal:        Thursdays at 6:45 PM
            Directors:           Les and Laura Jackson

Chancel Choir: This group of about fifty adults gather weekly for rehearsal and sing in most of the 10:30 worship services except for the summer months. Anyone is welcome to come and join in the fellowship of this group. No auditions are necessary.

            Rehearsal:        Thursdays at 8:00 PM
            Director:             Dale Cryderman
Cherub Choir: This group is open to all children. Weekly rehearsals are on Tuesdays. The Cherubs sing on the 2nd Sunday of the month in the 10:30 service. The Cherub choir is also the nucleus for Children's Cantatas that are presented at special times.

            Rehearsal:         Tuesdays at 6:00 PM
            Director:              Becky Turk

Children's Handchimes: The Handchimes meet for rehearsal on Tuesdays, following the Cherub Choir. Students learn to read simple music and measure time. The Handchimes play on the 1st Sunday of the month in the 10:30 service.

            Rehearsal:         Tuesdays at 6:45 PM
            Director               Betty Blue

Instruments: Our church has an Allen digital organ with the capabilities of a 40-rank pipe organ. Sanctuary instruments also include a Roland electronic keyboard/synthesizer.

Debbie Carlson is our church organist and pianist for the choir. Persons with keyboard skills are often needed for special occasions and to substitute as needed.

Other instrumentalists are often desired to add color to choral works or to present a solo or ensemble number in worship as special music. Please contact the church office if you have instrumental skills that could add to the beauty of our worship experiences, or if you know someone who might minister in this way.

Special Music: We are always looking for persons to share their talent in worship by presenting special music. This is especially needed for the 8:30 service throughout the year, and in all summer services. Please contact our office so that you can be on our list of volunteer musicians.
